Joint International Conference – ICNERE and EECCIS 2016

The 3rd International Conference on Nano Electronics Research Education 2016 (ICNERE 2016) and 8th International Conference on Electrical Power, Electronics, Communications, Controls and Informatics System 2016 (EECCIS 2016) were held in Batu, Malang, East Java Province, Indonesia on October 31 –  November 2, 2016. The joint international conference of ICNERE and EECCIS 2016 were organized by Universitas Indonesia (UI), Shizuoka University, Universitas Brawijaya and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM).

The objective of this joint conference was to provide opportunities for researchers, scientists, engineers and vendors working in the area of electric power, electronic, telecommunication, control and informatics to exchange their ideas and also to present and discuss latest results and future directions of research and application, and developments in the converging technology and educations of electrical and electronics engineering.

Kelurahan Dauh Puri Celebrate The Indonesia Independence Day

Lot of work to do in this month. The village or Kelurahan Dauh Puri
of Denpasar Bali celebrate the 63th anniverary of Indonesia
Independence Day on August 18, 2008 with Torch Festival and Bamboo Climbing
events .

The Torch Festival started at 19.00 pm on August 16. During the event, the
people walked around the Kelurahan area and carried a bamboo torch start from
Buru Street to Diponegoro Street, Hasanudin Street, Mayjen Sutoyo Street, PB.
Sudirman Street, Yos Sudarso Street, Diponegoro Street, Nusakambangan Street
and finish at Kelurahan Office. At the end of the festival, a lot of
door prizes given by bussinessmen and companies in Dauh Puri were drawn. The
poeple were very happy when they got some umbrellas, bags, shoes, DVD Player,
Television Set and many other things and left the Kelurahan Office at
about 10.00 pm.

After supper, we continued our work to to prepare the Bamboo Climbing event.
Two bamboo poles were brought from Kelurahan Office to Tragia Area. The
bamboos were carried by Pecalang Trijaga Mandala. At Tragia Area we started to
dig a hole for bamboo position and tied the gift on bamboo. Each bamboo has 24
black plastic bags of gift. It was a hard work for Pecalang Trijaga Mandala to
dig some holes at Tragia Area. We found no problem at the first dig and the
bamboo pole was succesfully erected. But not for the second one. We failed to
dig a hole for the second bamboo due to stonelike building material laid under
the soil. It could be from the ex building of a jail before the Tragia Shopping
Centre was built. We moved to another position and start to dig but failed
again……. At the fifth position we succesfully dig a hole for the second
bamboo. Thanks to Pecalang Trijaga Mandala for their help.
On August 17, at 10.00 pm the people came to Bamboo Climbing event. There
were some groups of youth prepared to climb the bamboos. It was not easy to do
since both bamboss has been with filled with oil! The oily bamboo surface often
caused the climbers sliding down and made the event full of joy. After some
trials the climbers are able to reach the top of bamboo pole and to drop down the

Vegetarian in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia

On May 17, 2008 I went to Veggie Corner with Wayan Subakti. Veggie Corner is vegetarian restaurant in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia. It is located at Jalan Imam Bonjol No. 133 Denpasar. Although it has not a large dining room, the restaurant serves domestic and international cuisine. At this time Wayan liked to have Nasi Goreng Seafood ( fried rice with “seafood” ) while I asked for Nasi Langgi ( rice with spicy Langgi, fried potatoes and sliced fried tempe ).

At Veggie Corner Restaurant you can ask for vegetarian menu such as : Sate Oriental with peanut sauce, Grilled Soya, Fried Sealike Soya, Grilled Gluten, Fried Lakely Soya. The prices are about Rp 10000 to Rp 12500. It sounds reasonable for the price.

The other vegetarian restaurant in Denpasar is Veggie House. It is located at Pertokoan Sudirman Agung B12A Jalan Sudirman Denpasar. The restaurant is clean and comfort with air conditioner and television set showing Supreme Master TV Program.

Veggie House serves vegetarian pizza and burger such as: vegetable pizza, veggie soya meat pizza, veggie white pizza, veggie hamburger and veggie fillet burger. It use no egg mayonaise. Some Indonesian vegetarian soups such as: baso veggie, baso veggie special, baso sawi kuah and baso kuning are available, too.

I went to this vegetarian restaurant with Ramacandra. He loves to eat Nasi Goreng Omelet while I like to eat Nasi Goreng Oriental. The picture below shows Nasi Goreng Omelet served by Veggie House. The fried rice is covered by the omelet. I guarantee you will be impressed too. The price is Rp 12500.

At Jalan Cok Agung Tresna no. 108 Denpasar, there is a place you can dine. It name is Bodhi Veg Restaurant. This restaurant has different atmosphere with two restaurants I mention before. Bodhi Veg has a tiny but pleasant garden with fountain. I think that it is a right place to dine in.

Bodhi Veg serves vegetarian menu without egg, garlic, onion nor mushroom. The menu items such as Ikan Bakar (Grilled Vegetarian Fish), Ayam Bakar (Grilled Vegetarian Chicken), Sayur Hijau (Mixed Green Vegetables), Spaghetti, Tempura, Udang Bumbu Pedas (Shrimp with Spicy Seasoning).

If you go to Kuta or Tuban area, there is a vegetarian restaurant near the Ngurah Rai Statue in front of the Pertamina petrol station. It’s name is De Ra Sa Vegetarian, located at Pertokoan Graha Tuban Kav No. 6 on Jalan By Pass Ngurah Rai No 88 E, Tuban Kuta. De Ra Sa offers menu such as Nasi Bebek BBQ ( Rice with Vegetarian “Duck” BBQ ), Nasi Ayam BBQ ( Rice with Vegetarian “Chicken” BBQ ), Nasi Goreng Seafood ( Fried Rice with Vegetarian “Seafood ), and Seaweed Soup, and other Chinese Vegetarian Cuisine. De Rasa also offers special drink named Momocaca Ice. The price is Rp 7800. I like it very much.

On June 7, 2008 I went to Chai Ken Siang Vegetarian Restaurant with Ramacandra. The restaurant is located in Jalan Teuku Umar Barat No 9X Denpasar, in front of Super Ekonomi Supermarket. Chai Ken Siang Vegetarian Restaurant serves daily special menu, that is: Rawon Vegetarian on Monday, Soto Babad Vegetarian on Tuesday, Pangsit Mie and Bakso on Wednesday, Nasi Campur Khas Bali on Thursday, Soto Ayam Veggie on Friday and Sate Gulai on Saturday. This restaurant is equipped with air conditioner so you won’t get sweat while you dine. At those time, we have had Kolobak and Cap Cay Goreng. It cost Rp, 8500 for Kolobak and Rp 8,000 for Cap Cay Goreng. In my opinion, this restaurant serves delicious Chinese and Indonesian cuisine.

Chai Ken Siang Vegetarian Restaurant also serves special beverage named with Teh Susu Mutiara Asli Taiwan (Tea and Milk with Taiwan Pearl). Ramacandra and I like it very much.

Bali Museum

On May 12, 2008, I went to Bali Museum in Denpasar City, Province of Bali, Indonesia. Bali Museum is located at Mayor Wisnu Street, Denpasar. You can easily reach the museum since it is located in the center of the city of Denpasar.

Bali Museum has several buildings:

  • Tabanan Building.

Tabanan Building was a contribution from the royal family of Tabanan Kingdom. Its architecture is of Tabanan style representing that of south Bali in general. In former time such building was used to store the wealth and valuable properties of the king in the form of art objects as well as sacred equipments and tools.

The width of Tabanan Building is 155 meter square meters with two roofs, one under the other like meru shrine. Its original form is : a two-roof building, with one elevated room at the center surrounded by a solid wall (now only a glass bar), and equipped with a door in front and two small windows on the right and left hand sides of the wall. The surrounding and lower leveled veranda is equipped with a number of poles at its edge to support its roof. The space between the two roofs is solidly blocked to keep safe all objects stored inside.

  • Karangasem Building.

The name of this building is taken from the name of Karangasem regency of east Bali who has built this building in year 1925 for the Bali Museum. This building is in the form of the Balai Penangkilan (a meeting place) in the king’s palace of Karangasem with architecture of east part of Bali which has combined with the temple style and modified in accordance to museum’s need.

The Karangasem Building collects many items such as Wuku Calendar, Palelintangan (Bali Astrological Calendar), and Lontar Manuscripts (Manuscripts written at palm leaf cut into length about 20-40 cm).

  • Buleleng Building.

The name of this building is taken from the name of the Buleleng Regency of the north part of Bali who has presented this building to the Bali Museum in year 1932. The building is represents the style of a temple pagoda ( meru ) with the architecture of north part of Bali style which is normally built in the temple and has modified in accordance to the museum’s need.

The Buleleng Building displays traditional spinning wheel and loom. On Balinese loom, the warp is stretched between a heavy wooden structure and a sort of yoke shaped like a bow held by woman’s back.

  • Split Gate.
  • Covered Gate.
  • The Wooden Bell Tower.
  • East Building.

The East Building of Bali Museum is built in 1969 by Pelita Project held by the Government of Indonesia during Suharto era. This two-stories building displays various pre-historical and historical collection of Bali, and also the development of art painting and sculpture in Bali since 16th century until present time.

What’s inside the East Building of Bali Museum ? Here you can find Stone Throne, Sarcophagus, Site Map of Bali Pre-historical Period, Hunting and Cutting Things of The Paleolithicum Period, Stone Tools of The Neolithicum Period, Sharp Weapons of The Paleomethalic Period and Traditional Weapons of The Modern Period.

The East Building of Bali Museum is also collecting Stone and Bronze Statues of The Ancient Period.

The Twin Lingga, Sandstone Statue, Priest Statue, Bronze Light, Jars and some types of ceramic of The Middle Period are also displayed at The East Building of Bali Museum.

This is an interesting museum to visit. Do not forget to visit Bali Museum.

The Surabaya Zoo

This is an interesting place in Surabaya City, East Java Province, Indonesia. The Surabaya Zoo is located at Jalan Setail No. 1 Surabaya. You can find it easily on the map, near the Wonokromo Station. In front of its entry gate, there is a statue of the symbol of Surabaya, the Sura (Fish) and Baya (Crocodile).

I bought an entry ticket. It cost Rp 10.000 for adult to enter the zoo. Let’s go inside …..

There is a Map of Surabaya Zoo near the entry gate. I took a photograph of it. This map can help us to find our location as well as the animal location. Here is the map in Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian Language). The title is Kebun Binatang Surabaya, means Surabaya Zoo.

The Zoo has rich vegetation and thousands of animals. The class consists of Mammal, Reptile, Aves and Pisces.

The mammals class consists of :

  • Tapir
  • Ceetah
  • Baboon
  • Camel

Camel (Camelus Dromedarius) is able to live in temperature up to 41°C (106 °F) at day. Camel can run up to 65 km/h (40 mph) in short range and able to maintain speed of up to 40 km/h (25mph). Because of its ability, military used camel as cavalry in past century.

  • Zebra
  • Capybara
  • Sambar Deer
  • Black Bear

Black bear ( Ursus americanus ) eats both meat and plant such as salmon, crayfish, nuts and berries. It also feed on bee larvae as a protein source. Black bear can stand and walk while it look at something since it hind legs are slightly longer than forelegs. It’s native habitat is in North America.

Giraffe (Giraffa Camelopardalis) is the tallest of land-living animal. Giraffe has a long neck to reach the leaves of trees. Giraffe can reach up to 5.5 metres (18 feet) tall for male and slightly shorter for female. Giraffe lives in savanna, open woodland or grassland.

The Reptile at Surabaya Zoo consists of Snakes, Komodo Dragon, and Crocodile. In my opinion, The Komodo Dragon are very interesting. They fed every 5th and 20th day month at 12:30 pm. These are the biggest lizards in the world. They can grow to a length of 3.63 meter and weight of 150 kg.

The Aves class consists of:

  • Green Peafowl

Green Peafowl ( Pavo Muticus ) usually spend time on the ground but roost in trees at a height of 10-15 m. Green Peafowl is only found in the forest or scrubland in Java Island. The male Green Peafowl has a slight crook in its neck and long iridescent upper tail feathers. According to IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, Green Peafowl is evaluated as vulnerable.

  • Jalak Bali ( Leucopsar Rothschildi )
  • Pelican
  • Ostrich

The Surabaya Zoo is a very nice place to visit. I will come to this zoo next time.

Vegetarian In Malang, East Java, Indonesia

Malang City is the second largest city in East Java, Indonesia. When I visited this city, I went to some vegetarian restaurants, such as Metta Vegetarian and Gardenia Bakery & Resto.

Metta Vegetarian is located at Jalan Simpang Wilis No.7, Malang. It serves Indonesia and Chinese vegetarian cuisines. The menu consist of Nasi Campur (Mixed Rice), Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice), Kwee Tiaw, Mie, Soup, Vegetarian Meal, Fried Vegetarian. The price is about Rp. 10000 to 12500 for Nasi Campur or Nasi Goreng.

The taste is good. Look at that dish full of vegetarian meat. I love it. I also asked Tempe Penyet, a traditional cuisine from East Java.

I will come to this restaurant if I visit Malang next time.

The other place is Gardenia Bakery & Resto. It is located at Jalan Raya Dieng No. 31, Malang. It is about 100 meter from Dieng Plaza. The restaurant has a large parking area and nice atmosphere. I impressed with the layout and lighting.

Beside that, Gardenia Bakery & Resto serves delicious Indonesian and Chinese vegetarian cuisines. You can look at the picture below. They serve it well.

This will makes sense for me to visit Gardenia Bakery & Resto next time.

Vegetarian In Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia

When I visited Surabaya City, East Java, Indonesia, there are some vegetarian restaurants. As a vegetarian, I should find it to dine in. I will show you where to find it in Surabaya.

The first is Zhe Hang Veggy Resto. It is located at Jalan Walikota Mustajab No. 24 Surabaya, near the municipality office. The price is fair. No need to worry. It serves Indonesian and Chinese Vegetarian Cuisine.

The other restaurant is Family Vegetarian Fast Food at Jalan Mayjen Sungkono No. 94, near the TVRI. It serves Indonesia and Chinese Cuisine, too. The price at Family is higher than Zhe Hang since Family equipped with air conditioner. I asked for a take away Nasi Campur (Mixed Rice). It served well in a box. I like it very much.

PLD Terms

A chip that contain relatively large amounts of logic circuitry with a structure that is not fixed, called Programmable Logic Device (PLD). In general, a programmable logic device is a circuit, which can be configured by the user to perform a logic function. Unlike a logic gate, which has a fixed function, a PLD has an undefined function at the time of manufacture. Before the PLD can be used in a circuit, it must be programmed (reconfigured). PLD provides specific function, such as electronic decoder, driver, counter and other function a system must perform.

Programmable logic device (PLD) can be changed at any time to perform any number of functions. The designers may use inexpensive software to develop, simulate and test their design. After that, the designers can test PLD in a real circuit. They also can change the circuit easily to their satisfaction. This can be done because PLD is based on rewriteable memory technology.

In middle 1978, the inventors of Monolithic Memories, Inc (MMI), John Birkner and H.T. Chua introduced Programmable Array Logic (PAL). This device equipped with PROM (Programmable read-Only Memory) and additional logic gates.The software design tool is PALASM (PAL Assembler).This software makes PAL easy to use. MMI made agreements with AMD, National, and TI to established the 20-pin bipolar devices (PAL16L8, PAL16R8, etc).

Another innovation of PAL invented by Lattice Semiconductor is Generic Array Logic (GAL). The GAL is erasable and re-programmable. It is also able to take place of many PAL devices and also wider PAL original function. These advantages makes easier for designers to prototype and change their design.

In general, there are three different type of PLD: Simple Programmable Logic Device (SPLD), Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD), and Field Programmable Logic Device (FPGA). The SPLD device typically contains about 600 or fewer gates, meanwhile the CPLD contains up to 10,000 gates. The FPGA contains the highest amount of gates and highest performance. The FPGA may contains hundred of thousands gates. Therefore, CPLD and FPGA are often referred as High Capacity Programmable Logic Device (HCPLD).CPLD is often used in portable applications such as mobile phone, personal digital assistant, etc. Meanwhile FPGA is used widely in data processing and storage, instrumentation system, telecommunications, and digital signal processing.

Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD) is a high-density programmable device generally based on the PAL or SPLD architecture. Its routing is more predictable timing than FPGA.

Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is a single chip contains gate array, with general-purpose metal tracks, often with variable length segments or routing tracks. The device is programmed by turning on the switches, which makes connections between circuit nodes and the metal routing tracks. The term Programmable Logic means that a logic element whose function is not restricted to a specific function. The designer can program it using a programming software tool. The term Gate Array means the gates are fabricated in a 2 dimensional array on a die to form a specific function such as phase lock loops, delay-locked loops, SRAM blocks and others.

The connection between circuit nodes and the metal routing tracks may be made by a transistor switch (which is controlled by a programmable memory element) or by an antifuse. An antifuse is an electrical device that performs the opposite function to a fuse. Whereas a fuse starts with a low resistance and is designed to permanently break an electrically conductive path (typically when the current through the path exceeds a specified limit), an antifuse starts with a high resistance and is designed to permanently create an electrically conductive. (
